1. PREFER : Tercih etmek

PREFER + NOUN(İSİM) Prefer fiilinden sonra isim kullanılabilir:

a. I prefertea..

PREFER + NOUN + TO + NOUN Bir şeyin başka bir şeye tercih edildiğini anlatmak için iki ismin arasında “to” edatı kullanılır.

b. I preferteatocoffee.

PREFER + VERB+ing Prefer fiilinden sonra kullanılan fiile “ing” takısı eklenir.

c. I prefer reading a book.

PREFER + VERB+ing + TO +VERB+ing “to” edatı iki fiil arasında da kullanılabilir.

d. I prefer reading a book to watching TV.

PREFER + TO + VERB1 Prefer fiilinden sonra “to” ve fiilin birinci hali kullanılabilir. Fakat buradaki “to” mastar ekidir ve “to” edatıyla karıştırılmamalıdır.

e. I prefer to read a book.

PREFER + TO + VERB1 + RATHER THAN + VERB1 Bir işi yapmanın başka bir işi yapmaya tercih edildiğinin anlatmak için iki fiil arasında “ratherthan” kalıbı kullanılır. İkinci fiilden önce “to” kullanılmaz.

DON’T / DOESN’T PREFER

Tercihler genellikle Present Simple Tense (Geniş Zaman) ile anlatıldığında prefer “don’t” ya da “doesn’t” y yardımcı fiilleri ile olumsuz yapılır.

( I, You , We , They = don’t ; He, She , It =doesn’t ) g. g.

I don’tprefer listening to classical music. ((Ben klasik müzik dinlemeyi tercih etmem.) h. h. She doesn’t prefer studying alone. ( (O tek başına ders çalışmayı tercih etmez.)

2.WOULD RATHER: Tercih etmek “ would rather” kalıbı da tercih etmek anlamında kullanılır. Fakat “wouldrather” kalıbından sonra her zaman fiilin birinci hali kullanılır. WOULD RATHER + VERB1

a. ‘Shallwegooutthisevening?’= ‘I’dratherstay at home.’

b. You can waitforthebusifyouwant. = I’drathertake a taxi.

WOULD RATHER + NOT + VERB1 “wouldrather” kalıbını olumsuz yapmak için sadece not kullanılır.

c. I’drather not gotothecinemathisevening.

WOULD RATHER + VERB1 + THAN + VERB1 Bir işin başka bir işe tercih edildiğini anlatmak için iki fiil arasında “than” kullanılır. Fakat, birinci fiil ve ikinci fiil aynıysa ikinciyi tekrar etmeye gerek yoktur.
