💡 Teacher’s Note: In this unit, the “at / in a place” structure (Dative — Wo?) and the possessive pronouns used to introduce people (mein / meine) should be presented as fixed patterns. Grammar rules should be made memorable through color coding (der = Blue, die = Red, das = Green).

📍 A) Expressing Location in German (Wo? — Where?)

When we say we are at a place in German (at school, in the classroom, etc.), the original articles change form and become fixed Dative patterns.

👥 B) Introducing a Friend — The “My” Pattern (Possessive Pronouns)

Just like with family members, when we introduce our friends, we choose one of two “my” words depending on their gender (male friend / female friend).

🔵 For male friends with the article der ➔ mein [mine]

🔴 For female friends with the article die ➔ meine [mine-uh]

Every person, place, and object in the school environment has a fixed grammatical gender (article).

🔍 “Wo bin ich?” (Where Am I?) — The Detective Game

How to play:

1. One student is chosen as the detective. They go to the board with the instruction “Geh an die Tafel!” and turn around (or close their eyes).
2. The teacher secretly gives one of the other students a picture card of a school area (e.g., das Klassenzimmer — the classroom).
3. The detective turns back and asks the class: “Wo bin ich?” (Where am I?)
4. The student holding the card can either:
   • Point to their neighbor (like in “Stell deinen Freund vor!”), or
   • Give a clue directly to the detective: “Du bist nicht zu Hause.” (You are not at home.)
5. The detective looks at their classmates’ faces and tries to guess the correct place: “Ich bin im Klassenzimmer!”
6. When the detective gets it right, the whole class shouts “Richtig!” and claps their hands (“Klatsch in die Hände!”).
